Mold Allergies

An Allergy is a disorder of the immune system often also referred to as atopy. Allergic reactions occur to normally harmless environmental substances known as allergens; these reactions are acquired, predictable, and rapid. Strictly, allergy is one of four forms of hypersensitivity and is called type I (or immediate) hypersensitivity.

Mold Allergies Symptoms And Treatments

The symptoms of mold allergies can be very similar to the signs related to Asthma. The condition is serious and stubborn. It is important to determine if the allergic reaction is caused by household or airborne mold in order to treat it effectively.

First of all, the symptoms of mold should be recognized and the source isolated.

Mold usually grows on wood, fabric or paper that has been moist for a few days to a couple of weeks. The lack of sunlight contributes a great deal to the formation of household mold.

Some of the common symptoms of mold allergies include sneezing, redness of the nose, runny nose and coughing. However the best way to determine the presence of mold symptoms is to do a mold allergy test.

There are many mold allergy-testing kits available over the counter and if residents of the house are prone to allergic reactions these kits should be kept at home. There are also some prescribed antihistamines that can be kept at home in case of an allergic attack.

Learn how to detect mold - it could be a life saving exercise!

Look for black or gray spotted or speckled patches in the corners of the house. These will normally appear in closets, under the stairs and on outer walls of the house. Typically, mold will appear in places close to damp areas.

However, bear in mind that not all mold is harmful. It is the toxic mold that one needs to be particularly careful of.

The best way to prevent health complications arising from mold allergies, should you suspect this is the case, is to get the house checked by professionals once a year just before the start of the rainy season.

The best way to avoid mold allergies is to get rid of the moisture in the house. There are professionals who cater only to locating and removing mold from homes and offices. Since mold allergies can be very serious and most of the time stubborn, hiring professionals to scan the place for mold and remove it should not be given a second thought by health conscious and house-proud homeowners.
